By now you should have received a letter from Medicare indicating whether or not you are exempt from the new MIPS reporting requirements. You can now go online to determine whether your physician is exempt from the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System for the 2017 performance period. The 2017 MIPS scores can affect 2019 Medicare payments.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has added a national provider identifier (NPI) lookup tool to its Quality Payment Program website. Physicians who bill Medicare can use the tool to find out if they are required to submit data to MIPS or if they are exempt this year.
